Dreaming- Jaime’s Tone

“Dreaming” by Jaime’s Tone comes across like someone who genuinely loves the DNA of classic prog rock but doesn’t want to get stuck in it. Right from the start, you hear that 80s influence creeping in—synth textures, big guitar tones, and that slightly dramatic atmosphere—but it’s not just nostalgia for the sake of it. There’s an effort to blend it with something more modern, a bit of indie looseness that stops it from feeling too rigid or over-polished. It’s ambitious, and you can tell the artist isn’t playing it safe.

The title track “Dreaming” is clearly meant to be the centerpiece, and it does carry that “prog rock statement” energy. It stretches out more than the others, builds in layers, and leans into that emotional, almost cinematic progression. At times, it really works—you get pulled into the shifts and the mood changes—but there are moments where it feels like it’s trying a bit too hard to prove itself. Prog can easily fall into that trap, and you hear flashes of that here. Still, there’s enough sincerity in the way it’s put together that it doesn’t feel fake, just slightly overreaching in places.

Across the EP, the strongest thing is the identity. It sounds like a project that knows what it wants to be, even if it hasn’t fully nailed it yet. The mix of prog, indie, and hard rock isn’t always perfectly balanced, but it’s interesting, and more importantly, it’s not generic. “Dreaming” feels like a step forward rather than a finished statement, which isn’t a bad thing. It leaves you with the sense that the best work might still be coming, and that’s usually a good sign
